Linger
I was running left and they said it wasn’t right, mirroring their moves cause I didn’t want to fight
It had me playing monkey see monkey do, had me looking at tomorrow with a wonky point of view
Didn’t seem to get very far
Then one day there you are
From electronic images to telephonic sounds, to per chance an evening next time you make the rounds
I’m flying my kite like it’s Svallin’s shield, you run with Hemmy and Draco through an open field
Soon we can laugh and sing karaoke at the bars
Or listen to that new Kongos disc sittin underneath the stars
August seems suddenly so much closer than before, cause I can’t help from wondering what’s in store
Can somebody really even be so cool? The moment our eyes meet, am I Dagonet the fool?
Though I may fancy myself to be an odist from afar
I’m a mumbling idiot when I’m standing where you are
Easy to write words, or talk on the phone, but my bullshit fades and I turn to stone
It’s so much different when there’s nowhere to hide, I’m an open book and you can see inside
My pages are weathered, see the scars?
Not too perfect, I got plenty of mars
Life will do that, put a smile on your face while you’re choking back the tears
Make you feel so goddamned safe, while you face your darkest fears
I can’t make heads or tails of why it’s so hard to put my finger
On what comes next, but when it feels this good, let it linger
Linger while I work on getting through the week
Linger as I smile every time I hear you speak
Linger straight through the worst feelings, get me on my feet
Linger till I’m truly blessed, yeah linger till we meet.
