The Big 2-8
Cakes and candles, hugs and presents, greetings from many friends
Enjoying all of the laughter and stories that you pray never ends
Your birthday is full of so many good things to do and to eat
But you know it’s never quite done, no it can’t be complete
Until the text arrives from dear old dad, some words of prose
Extolling the virtues of his son, but Ti that’s the way it goes
And it won’t be long now until you yourself are left with a choice
Staring down at your own child, suddenly speaking with a new voice
Or remain quiet? Not a chance! You will have so many things to say!
Then son, you will find yourself squeezing into my shoes that day
And the thought that once sent shivers all the way down my spine
Will bring a smile, a little sparkle from your eye crawling so divine
Gramps will write many things about that joyous child, you can bet
No matter how many join the fold, there is one thing I’ll never forget
Every January 23rd, as I wake in the morning my thoughts will return to that day
In ’95 rushing to the hospital to see you born, a favorite memory to always stay
Etched in my heart and my soul until my days here have come to an end
So now I wish you all of the happiness and love that a man can send
And on this day, I make a point of taking a moment to look to the sky
To thank your mom for the greatest gift ever, Happy Birthday Ti!
Love Dad
