Till I lay my head in your lap
Too many days began without as much as a chance
When you’re away there’s music but I won’t dance
No rhythm to my movements, can’t seem to find a flow
My feet try to start moving but the rest of me won’t go
I hear the beat and it’s a familiar melody that I love to sing
All about long summer nights and the magic that they bring
But I don’t utter a line, don’t move a muscle, not even a toe tap
No, I can’t quite do a happy dance, till I lay my head in your lap
So many times, I thought the journey was finally over and complete
Cause she came home and lit my fire, but sadly she had to retreat
Promises, hugs, long kisses goodbye, followed by teardrops and a smile
Just stay strong, don’t you go giving up, you know it’s not your style
Soon she’ll return, a promise in her words, love flows through her lips
Softly on my chest, scent of perfume, my neck can still feel her fingertips
She’s on her way, that music reaches a crescendo, and my feet begin to tap
But I won’t dance, won’t catch me on the floor, till I lay my head in your lap
