Time has left my side
My youth was such an intriguing period, he exclaimed recalling those years
The ease of movement, hunger for adventure, off exploring new careers
Meeting different types of people on all my journeys far and wide
Closer to the end than the beginning now, time has left my side
Not that I feel measured in my breaths, or worry about seeing the dawn
Been on the chessboard enough to know real happiness is being a pawn
Strove to be king, struck down by knights, chastised by bishops but kept my pride
Battles behind me, cheers and chuckles reminisce for time has left my side
The time for waging battles and climbing ladders to the top of the heap
Whose neck did I step on? I left because the price was too damn steep
I may not have a mansion, I may not look pretty, but I’m gorgeous inside
A man should make amends he said it’s plain to see time has left my side
