It's Day 22 of the MLB Lockout π₯π.
On #TheUpdate this Thursday, the wait goes on. New York City officials say that they're opening more COVID-19 testing sites and restricting visitation at city-run hospitals and jails. Meanwhile, outgoing Mayor De Blasio says that no decision still have been made on whether to ban people from New Year's Eve in Times Square, even as Fox says they're cancelling its live broadcast because of concerns about the omicron varient. Christmas came early- or really late, depends on how you look at it- when a professor at CUNY City College in Harlem discovered a box postmarked in 2020, holding $180,000 in cash. The letter attached stated that the cash was a donation meant to help physics and math students there. And two new British studies provide some early hints that the omicron varient of COVID may be milder than delta. Scientists stress however that even if the findings of these early studies hold up, any reductions in severity need to be weighed against the fact that omicron spreads much faster than delta and is more able to evade vaccines. π¬π§π¨π½βπ¬
