On #TheUpdate this Monday, there's dwindling interest in the news, and it's definitely not good. The metrics are ugly for many TV, digital, and print news organizations: after record-setting engagement numbers in 2020, many people are cutting back in news consumption. Cable news and digital sites in particular are coping with a dramatic decrease in interest in political news after that was a major draw in 2020. Governor Hochul is going on the offense as people are starting to get weary of her coronavirus tactics. She insisted at a news conference Friday that the state acted early, and had gone everything it can against the rapid spread of the omicron varient. And even with some mighty competition from the new Matrix and Sing movies and rising concerns over the omicron varient, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" stayed in the #1 spot, with $81.5 million according to studio estimates. It also became 2021's top-grissing film and crossed the $1 billion mark globally in just 12 days. πΈοΈπ΅π₯
