Locally, New York state is taking a big and bold step in the COVID fight. Governor Hochul says that the statewide school masking requirement will be lifted by March 2nd. And then, hours later, Mayor Adams said that he's considering lifting the indoor school mask mandate and also the vaccine mandates for restaurants, bars, and theaters on March 7th. All of this is contingent on infections and hospitalizations continuing their downward trend.
In the Bronx, a relative of a woman whose body was found Friday in a plastic storage container has been charged in her death. 21-year-old Khalid Barrow is charged with murder and concealing a human corpse.
A new United Nations report on climate change harms people and the environment reads like an atlas of human and planetary suffering. The report says that the world is going to get sicker, hungrier, poorer, gloomier, and way more dangerous in the next 18 years.
