From New York, the greatest city in the world, it's The Update with Brandon Julien! Today's road assignment comes from Dante Park near Lincoln Center.
Some stories talked about on today's show were:
1. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is ordering all workers in nonessential businesses to stay home and banning gatherings statewide. Cuomo announced the restrictions Friday that take effect Sunday. He also says nonessential gatherings of individuals of any size or for any reason are canceled or postponed.
2. The Tokyo Olympics have reached a critical phase. The torch relay begins in a few days in northern Japan. Organizers are asking fans to attend but be restrained along the roadside for fear of spreading the coronavirus. Japanese organizers and IOC President Thomas Bach say the games will open July 24 at the $1.4 billion national stadium in Tokyo.
3. Mike Bloomberg is transferring $18 million from his presidential campaign to the Democratic National Committee in what is the largest such transfer ever. Bloomberg’s move will help the DNC make up for some of its steep fundraising disadvantage to its Republican counterpart.
