Description

From New York, the greatest city in the world, it's The Update with Brandon Julien! While many are celebrating Earth Day, today's road stop is at Richmond Terrace in the St. George section of Staten Island.

Some stories talked about on today's show were:

1. The coronavirus has sunk major New York City events from the St. Patrick’s Day Parade to the 50th anniversary LGBT Pride march, but its famous July Fourth fireworks extravaganza will happen -- in some form. Mayor Bill de Blasio said Wednesday that one way or another, the show will go on. He says fireworks sponsor Macy’s agrees.

2. Hilary Mantel’s “The Mirror and the Light” and Bernardine Evaristo’s “Girl, Woman, Other” are among six finalists for the international Women’s Prize for Fiction. The list announced Tuesday also includes Natalie Haynes’ “A Thousand Ships” and Maggie O’Farrell’s “Hamnet.” Nominated alongside the four U.K. writers are American authors Angie Cruz for “Dominicana” and Jenny Offill for “Weather.”

3. Four-time All Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski is back in the NFL and reunited with Tom Brady. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers completed a trade for the retired New England star. They sent a fourth-round pick in this week's draft to the Patriots for Gronkowski and a seventh-round selection.
