From New York, the greatest city in the world, it's The Update with Brandon Julien! Today's road stop is over at Hudson River Park on the west side of Chelsea.
Some stories talked about on today's show were:
1. Barbershops, hair salons, tattoo parlors and nail salons in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania must close Saturday to slow the spread of the coronavirus. The order from the governors of the four states is the latest in a series of business restrictions announced by the states to reduce chances for the virus to spread from person to person. The businesses must close by 8 p.m. Saturday.
2. Former Manhattan prosecutor Linda Fairstein has sued Netflix and director Ava DuVernay over her portrayal in the streaming service's miniseries about the Central Park Five case. Fairstein claims in the lawsuit that the four-part series “When They See Us” defamed her by portraying her as a “racist, unethical villain.”
3. The sentencing of a former Wake Forest University assistant basketball coach convicted of assault for fatally punching a man in New York City has been postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic. A spokeswoman for the Queens district attorney's office says Jamill Jones' March 18 sentencing has been adjourned to June 16.
