From New York, the greatest city in the world, it's The Update with Brandon Julien! We are yet again on the road, this time from the closed steps of the Metropolitan Museum Of Art.
Some stories talked about on today's show were:
1. New York City is closing the nation's largest public school system, sending over 1.1 million children home in hopes of curbing the spread of coronavirus. Mayor Bill de Blasio announced yesterday that schools will close Monday through at least April 20 and possibly for the school year. And he says more measures to restrict movement of people were likely.
2. Federal prosecutors in New York City have hit R Kelly with more criminal charges. A revised indictment filed Friday accuses the disgraced R&B singer of having unprotected sex with an underage girl in 2015 without disclosing he had herpes. The new charges were included in a revised indictment filed in New York City a week after the 53-year-old Kelly pleaded not guilty to a separate updated federal indictment in Chicago.
3. A New York man accused of fatally stabbing a 78-year-old musician has been charged with murder. Rochester Police Investigator Frank Camp says Pedro Santiago Sr. was found bleeding in the front doorway of his Rochester home Wednesday afternoon. The Democrat & Chronicle reports officials charged 30-year-old Jose Sanchez with second-degree murder in connection with Santiago's death on Friday morning.
