Description

Our guest in this episode is Brooks Miller, head men's basketball coach of the reigning NCAA Division III National Champion Trine (IN) University.

Himself a 3-sport star growing up in rural northwest Ohio, Brooks played collegiately first at the University of Toledo and later at Hillsdale College.

He began his coaching at Hillsdale as an assistant to his coach, Ed Douma, before finding his way to Lubbock, TX, where he served as a graduate assistant to Bob Knight and was on staff with Pat Knight and current Ole Miss coach Chris Beard. From Texas Tech he joined the staff at South Plains College in Levelland, TX, working under Coach Steve Green.

During our time with Brooks, he shares what it was like growing up on a pig farm just south of the Michigan border, his love of the Detroit Tigers (Darrell Evans, in particular), Isiah Thomas and the Detroit Pistons, and football, basketball, and baseball as an athlete.

We also hear tales about his time as an assistant coach, what it's like coaching in Division III where no athletic scholarships exist, and, of course, this spring's run to the National Championship which culminated in Fort Wayne, IN, before a partisan Trine crowd with a 69-61 victory over top-seeded Hampden-Sydney.
