Description

We're joined in this episode by Carl Sterrett, an Alaskan for 51 years now. Like many Alaskans, Carl is a transplant. He's carried his fandom and passion for the Cincinnati Reds 4,000 miles north. Similary, he's still an ardent supporter of the Minnesota Vikings and, thanks to attending college in Fort Collins, he also has a soft spot for the Denver Broncos and the now Colorado Avalanche (but, then, the Colorado Rockies coached by Don Cherry) and the Boston Celtics (thanks to Larry Bird).

As befits an Independence Day episode, there's plenty of baseball talk. Carl discusses his Mount Rushmore of Major Leaguers, the opportunity he had to meet a couple of them in Alaska, his work in starting an adult baseball league in Anchorage, and trivia about the 1971 MLB All-Star Game and Reggie Jackson's historic performance in the 1977 World Series.

Oh, yeah, he also waxes poetic about the now-defunct Great Alaska Shootout men's basketball Thanksgiving tournament.
