Description

We're joined by Tonja Marshall, the Chief Marketing Officer at Visit Canton (OH), in this special bonus episode in advance of Event 5 of our host's Around the World in 80 Sporting Events project: Visiting the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Yes, the Hall of Fame, its annual enshrinement ceremony, and exhibition game are big drawing cards for this city of about 70,000 in northeast Ohio, but Tonja reminds us there's quite a lot more to experience in what she refers to America's Playing Field.

In downtown Canton's Centennial Plaza there's the walkable art exhibit entitled "The ELEVEN" highlighting the 11 greatest moments in professional football. Also found in the Plaza are pilons listing every player from pro football's first 100 years. If art's your thing, there's also the Canton Museum of Art as well as the neighboring Massillon Museum which combines art and history and includes, within, the Paul Brown Museum, aka the inventor of the modern game of football.

If history's more your bag, Canton is home to the William McKinley Presidential Library and Museum as well as the First Ladies National Historic Site and the MAPS Air Museum.

And for fans of the quirky, how about the Troll Hole Museum in nearby Alliance.
