Description

Do you have a discipleship mentality or a crowd mentality? Peter thought he had a discipleship mentality, but when it came down to Jesus saying He was going to the cross, Peter stepped in saying, “Never, Lord!” (Matthew 16:22). He called Jesus “Lord,” but then stood opposed to the Father’s will for Him! Jesus replies in vs 23 “Get behind me, Satan... Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. The word “life” is the Greek “psuche”, which means soul-life. A true discipleship mentality is one that denies — or as the Greek implies, DISOWN/KILL/DESTROY — the visions, ambitions, and desires of their own soul. Peter wasn’t in blatant sin, he was just clinging to his own idea of how things were supposed to be — “human concerns”, rather than the concerns of God!Many Christians love Jesus and have been set free, but like Peter they cling to their own ways while still thinking they are serving Jesus as Lord. Commit yourself to true discipleship today, by denying yourself and committing to seek God’s will and God’s way!
