He will guide/lead you into all truth – How?
Henry Blackaby, in the great discipleship tool from the 1990s called Experiencing God, reminds us that it is a Biblical reality that God Speaks, by the Holy Spirit through the Bible, prayer, circumstances, and the church to reveal Himself, His purposes, and His ways.
So, let’s consider how the Holy Spirit leads us …
1. By the Word of God – Hebrews 4:12; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Isaiah 55:10-11; Psalm 119:105
a. Because the Word is Alive!
b. It is Alive because God-breathed it
c. God promises us that He will communicate through His Word
d. The Word is God’s light in a Dark World – illumination
2. By Prayer with God – “Early will I seek you” Psalm 63:1-8; Jeremiah 33:3; Proverbs 3:5-6
a. He leads and He confirms – It comes in the form of His Peace – Philippians 4:6-7
b. We pray to Him, and He prays for us, far more than we comprehend! - Romans 8:26-27
3. By (our interactions with) God’s People –2 Corinthians 1:3-5; Philemon 7
a. Comfort, refreshment, encouragement
b. The church’s confirmation is significant
c. Clarifying – The Church Family sees our potential, our gifting, and our impact long before we do.
4. By God’s Divine Circumstances – All things – Romans 8:28
a. When your circumstances are confusing, the other 3 ways God speaks will be critical!
And that last point reminds us to consider- Why does the Spirit lead us in these ways?
1. The Spirit leads us to know God more – He reveals Himself – Who He is!
a. His promise – When you seek me, you will find me, when you search for me with your whole heart. Jeremiah 29:11-13; John 6:44
2. The Spirit leads us to know God’s purposes – What He is doing!
a. He leads us to a stronger faith for the task He has for us – stretching – Ephesians 2:8-10
b. Amos 3:7; Prov 19:21
c. He invites our participation – Romans 12:1-2
3. The Spirit leads us to know God’s ways -How He does What He does, based on Who He is!
a. So, we will accomplish His purpose, His way!
b. How matters! – How does God do His work? – Ephesians 3:20-21
i. Based on His ability, not ours!
ii. Far beyond anything we think
iii. According to His great power
iv. Working through us
v. For His Glory!
1. In the Church
2. In Christ Jesus
3. Forever!
4. Are you being led by His Spirit?
a. Why not surrender your life more fully to Him, today?
