The GO In The Gospel - A Study In Acts
Acts 2:1-41
Pente-cost – 50 Days after Passover; 7 weeks after thecelebration of the first fruits of the Barley Harvest – on what we now know as Resurrection Sunday! Pentecost was the day to celebrate the next harvest – the wheat is ready to be brought in! The Feast of Weeks from Leviticus 23:15-16.Jesus had told them the Promise would bring the Power, ‘Not many days from now’ as He ascended into heaven – 40 days after Firstfruits. And on Day 50 – The GO Process of building the church begins in dramatic fashion – Remember Matthew 16 – I will build my church!
Let’s examine the GO Process:
1. The Spirit fills prepared hearts – v 1-4
2. The Spirit draws a curious crowd – v5-13
3. The Gospel is preached by Convinced Witnesses – v14-15
4. Dots are connected from the OT to right then – v16-21
a. Remember, this is a Jewish audience!
5. Jesus is proclaimed as Lord & Savior – v22-36
6. Hearts are gripped by conviction of sin – v37
a. The Spirit convicts – John 16:8-11
b. The Obvious question is asked i. What shall we do? ii. Evangelism is explaining the Gospel and encouraging a response!
7. Those God called are led to repent & be saved – v38-40
8. New Believers are baptized to identify with Christ – v41
9. The church is formed by:
a. The preaching of the Gospel
b. The reaching of the Lost
c. Now, the Making of Disciples begins
d. And, we’ll see how effective discipleship happens in 2 weeks when we meet to finish this chapter in verses 41-47.
