Romans 8:1-27

Today, we proclaim and celebrate that We Love God the Holy Spirit.

The Articles of our Faith, known as The Baptist Faith and Message (2000) describe what we believe about God in this way –

Specifically, about God the Holy Spirit, it says:

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, fully divine. He inspired holy men of old to write the Scriptures. Through illumination, He enables men to understand truth. He exalts Christ. He convicts men of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. He calls men to the Savior, and effects regeneration. At the moment of regeneration, He baptizes every believer into the Body of Christ. He cultivates Christian character, comforts believers, and bestows the spiritual gifts by which they serve God through His church. He seals the believer unto the day of final redemption. His presence in the Christian is the guarantee that God will bring the believer into the fullness of the stature of Christ. He enlightens and empowers the believer and the church in worship, evangelism, and service.

We love God the Holy Spirit because:

1. He gives us life – Rom 8:1-2; 9-11

• a. The full life Christ promised
• b. The freedom of forgiveness – no condemnation
• c. Victory over sin!
• d. The interconnected Trinity makes it possible

2. He guides our walk – 8:3-8

• a. Our mind is set on Him – following His direction
• b. Sasha open, too!
• c. Adrian translating
• d. By expressing His fruit in our lives – Gal 5:16-26

3. He guarantees our future – v12-17, 23-25

• a. Adoption
• b. Certainty
• c. Inheritance
• d. Anticipation in Hope (Confidence) Glory Awaits!- 23-25
• e. His Spirit witnesses to our spirit that we are His!

4. He groans for our needs – v26-27

• a. He intercedes for us
• b. He knows us, and knows exactly what we need – in accordance with the will of God!

5. He gifts us for service to each other –

• a. For the common good – 1 Cor 12:4-11

6. Is your life controlled by the Holy Spirit?

• a. John 7:37-39
• b. Romans 12:1-2
• c. A Prayer to be filled – p. 12 of the Spirit-filled life booklet
• d. A Faith to Believe – not based on your feelings, but on the authority, truth and power of His Word.
