Episode 80 - Mighty God
His Name Shall Be Called
Isaiah 9:6, John
As our Mighty God, Jesus demonstrates power over all
situations and circumstances. To see Him in action let us go to John’s Gospel and notice Jesus’ power over water – the simple, yet necessary substance that comprises most of the planet (71%) and most of our bodies (55-60%).
Of the 85 times water is mentioned in the New Testament,
John writes nearly half of them (41). And, he uses water to demonstrate the Deity, Humanity, and Supernatural Power of Christ.
1. In John 1, Jesus submits to the waters of baptism.
a. To fulfill all righteousness – for credibility as a Teacher/Rabbi
b. To be identified as God’s son
2. In John 2, He famously turns water into wine
a. Without fanfare
b. To prevent the host’s great embarrassment
c. Because His mother said so!
3. In John 4, He is thirsty after a long journey on a hot day
a. He asks for a drink
i. To show how we can connect through a need
b. He offers Living Water
c. He is the Lord of Conversation
d. Lord of Compassionate Care
e. Lord of Leverage – reaching 1 to reach a whole village
f. Lord of the Harvest
4. In John 6, He walks on it!
a. Lord of Creation
b. Lord of Physics
c. Lord of Impossibilities
d. Lord of controlling the ‘out of control’
e. Lord of Opportunity
5. In John 7, He offers it as a symbol of the coming Holy Spirit
a. At the feast of Tabernacles
b. As water is being poured on the altar
c. He identifies as the Source of Life
6. In John 13, He serves His disciples with it
a. As an example of humility & ministry
b. As an example of love
7. In John 19, He thirst for it & It flows from His wounded side, confirming His Death
8. In Revelation 1 – The sound of His victorious, omnipotent voice is compared to the roar of many waters.
9. In Revelation 7:17, The water is Our tears, being dried – as all pain and sorrow are wiped away.
10. In Revelation 22:1, 17, It pictures our final state of perfection & peace.
Jesus is the Lord of All – The Mighty God – and He offers us Living Water!
