Episode 81 - Everlasting Light
His Name Shall Be Called
John 1:1-14; 8:12
O little town of Bethlehem
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight
As our Everlasting Light, Jesus shines in the darkness to alleviate our fears and transform them into Hope in God. In the dark, late at
night, that’s when we wonder about the big questions. In the darkness our hopes/dreams turn into fears – even some of today’s most secular people admit they think about these questions at night when they can’t go to sleep:
1. Do I matter?
2. Does anyone care about me?
3. How am I going to make it?
4. Is this all there is?
5. What happens when I die?
Many in our churches on Sunday mornings, maybe even you, ask
the same questions!
However, when Jesus brings the Light, our greatest fears turn into Everlasting Hope – Jesus came to Earth to say you matter. Let that rest upon you for a moment. You matter to God!
John 3:16 says HE came because of the great love of God for you. He came to, not just rescue you from sin’s power, but to adopt you into His everlasting, everloving family! Oh, yes, my friend, you matter! You are loved! Jeremiah 31:3 – an everlasting love!
You are wondering how you will make it and Jesus comes saying I am the Way – follow Me! The Living Word of God gives you the path to a life of success and even better, significance in His Kingdom – 1 John 2:6
You are wondering if this life you are now living is all there is; and Jesus comes saying – ‘The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but I have come that you might have life and have it to the FULL.’ He brings Peace, Forgiveness, Reconciliation - all through His perfect presence - with us!
4 brief thoughts about the Light –
1. In the Light, we see ourselves; our dreams, deeds, desires, and … our emptiness – how very far short we are, from where we want to be.
2. In the Light, He sees us – but, then He always has! He knows you, friend. He has seen you at your best, and also, at your worst. And…let this sink in too, He loves you – He is absolutely crazy about you in the Best possible way! He created you, for Goodness sakes! And, in spite of our mess, He says, ‘Come to Me’…Matthew 11:28-30
3. You see, in the Light, we also see Him – at His Birth in the humble manger, as the choir has so wonderfully shown us; In His blood-soaked suffering on the cross – saying to the thief dying next to Him – Luke 23:42-43; In His Perfect & Holy Resurrected Essence as King of Kings – Revelation 1:17-18.
How will you respond to what you see; to Who you see?
You see yourself – so needy
You see Him – so loving
Is there really any choice at all?
Run to Him! Give Him your Life! Commit to live for Him - And, then you will find your purpose & your direction – What you were created for
4. In the Light, we are the Light for Him – Mt 5:16 – Eph 5:8-9
a. The Fruit of Light - All that is Good, and Right, and True!
b. He sends us to tell the world – our fears, have been turned to Hope!
c. The Everlasting Light has come!
