Genesis 1:1, 27-31; 2:7, 18-25
2 Peter 1:3-9; 1 John 3:1-3
1. We are created in the Image of God
a. You will never look on a mere mortal – CS Lewis
b. Sin has corrupted the Image, but it is still there and to be valued/respected in every human life
c. Every human life is a dignified human life because of Elohim, our Creator God
2. We get our Identity from His Image in us.
a. He determines our Biology
b. We are uniquely formed/designed by Him, for Him.
3. The World is happy to shape our Identity with Lies.
a. from the World’s Destructive False Identities propagated especially through ‘social’ media – could anything be more inaccurately named?
b. You are How Much Attention you get – You are your ‘Likes’
c. You are How Much Power you can grab – You are your insults
d. You are How Much Acceptance you receive – no matter the compromise required to receive it – You are your agreements
e. You are How Important you seem by being Right – You are your moral high ground
f. You are How Much Control you exert over others – You are your arguments! – Sin makes us delight in taking control.

The Gospel is the Cure & the Corrective for all of these False Identities: 2 Peter 1:3-9
- Remember who you are
4. Your Vertical Identity with God produces healthy and vibrant horizontal relationships with others – 1 John 3:1-3
a. Your Heavenly Father loves you!
b. You are His Child – Now
c. We shall be like Him – Forever
i. If this is your rock-solid conviction then the cleansing power of your forgiven life in Him will bring a moral purity to all of your horizontal relationships. Not your self-righteous purity, based on what you can get from others (Attention, Power, Acceptance, by Compromise…but His Perfect Purity in you attracting others to God’s Image in you..
5. Our Identity, though marred by sin, is repaired, renewed, indeed, remade in Christ! Galatians 3:26-29
a. This is your identity – This is who you are – an image-bearer of the Lord Jesus.
