Episode 86 - God Most High

Know God More

Psalm 57:2, Daniel 4

1. Elyon – means exalted, Supreme Being; signifying the supremacy and overwhelming majesty of our Creator God! 

2. The Sovereign Ruler of the Universe has a plan for you.

a. Whether you are a pagan king or a peaceful saint

b. In Daniel 4 we see the Aramaic word that has the same meaning and concept, and we are let into the process by which this Awesome Supreme Being works to accomplish His purpose in an individual life

c. In this instance an individual that is going full speed, but 180o in the wrong direction!

 

3. What happens when the most pagan, most proud, most powerful leader of the known world is about to discover the Most High God’s plan for him?

 

4. Let’s study The Progression of a Sovereign Rebuke from El Elyon:

 

a. The Rebuke begins gently

· With a Dream v 4-18

·  God is so gracious to warn us first – Amos 3:7 - “For the Lord God does nothing without revealing his secret to his servants the prophets.”

 

b. The Rebuke intensifies firmly

· With a Warning, 19-27

· Daniel’s interpretation progressed to a stern warning.

· V. 22, 27 – Repent! It does not have to happen this way.

 

c. The Rebuke, when ignored, engages faithfully

· With the Promised Judgment, 28-33

· With Immediate impact! V33

 

d. The Rebuke relinquishes graciously

· With the required repentance, v 34-37

· Nebuchadnezzar could have skipped ahead to this step at any time

· You can too!

 

e. The Rebuke accomplishes His Glorious Praise

· With a Powerful Witness to the known World, v34-37, 4:1-3
· 5 Truths now proclaimed – from experience

1. His is an Everlasting Dominion; mine is not

2. His Kingdom is timeless; mine is not

3. Compared to Him, all humanity is nothing

4. His will is done on earth, as it is in Heaven!

5. You can’t stop Him; because I couldn’t!

· Now back to verses 1-3 

· He could have avoided it, but would he know the Most High God any other way? Some of us can only learn it the hard way! This is what that looks like.

 

5. We all have a Kingdom

a. Will we submit to the Most High God?!

b. And, embrace the purpose He has for us

· Psalm 57:2 - I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.

c. Or will we wait for His painful, yet loving rebuke?!
