Know God More
Genesis 17:1-9
1. God Almighty takes the initiative – v1
a. To reveal Himself in a New Way
b. 13 yrs after ‘The God Who Sees’
2. God Almighty gives the assignment
a. Walk before me
b. He doesn’t ask Abram, “What would you like to do for me, today?”
c. He is always at work around us and when he take the initiative to come to us, He is inviting us to join Him in what He is already doing.
3. God Almighty establishes the relationship
a. Based on His Promises
b. Not, on your effort – or shortcuts - Hagar
4. God Almighty multiplies – v2
a. It is at the heart of everything He does – multiplying the impact of 1 life into many others.
5. Our Appropriate Response should be Humility – falling on our faces before His Holiness – v3
a. James 4:6-10
b. 1 Peter 5:5-7
6. God Almighty brings Newness – v 4-6
a. New Name – Father of multitudes
b. New Capacity – exceedingly fruitful
c. New Impact – kings shall come
d. Isaiah 43:19 / Revelation 21:5 – New; Eternally New
7. God Almighty thinks, plans, and promises Generationally & Eternally – v7
a. What if what He is actively doing in your life right now has very little to do with you, but is designed to enable Him to work mightily in your grandchildren or great-grands – people that may not even be here, yet.
b. The Almighty Eternal God is able to do just that.
8. God Almighty bases His plans on His Grace – v8
a. His Generous gifts for you include the Best one of all
b. Himself! – He is personal with us – ‘He gets us!’
9. Our Obedience flows out of the relationship God Almighty establishes. V9
a. The 7 realities of Experiencing God tell us as much
b. We traced these principles through the life of Abraham in our ‘On Mission With God’ study back in the Fall of ’22.
10. The Impact will be far beyond imagination
a. Based on who He is - Gal 3:26-29
b. Based on what He is able to do
c. He is able:
In Daniel, He is Able to deliver the persecuted AND Humble the proud
In Romans, He is able to make us Stand firm in the Day of Judgment
In 2 Timothy 1:12, He is able to keep what we have entrusted to Him
In Hebrews, He is able to help the tempted and to ‘Save to the uttermost those who draw near to Him through Christ.
And in Ephesians 3:20-21 to make it abundantly clear - He is
able to do exceedingly abundantly beyond all we could ask or think … according to His power at work in us.
He is Almighty God – the Omnipotent One!
Paul said it best – 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
"9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong."
