1. The Rebel released
a. Captured
b. Guilty – of insurrection & murder – It says in verse 7, ‘who had committed murder!’
c. Notorious – Mt 27 - a famously bad man
d. Set Free – declared innocent, all know he is guilty – Will Graham thoughts
2. The King crucified
a. The Innocent declared guilty, v8-10; In direct contrast to Barabbas - all know He is innocent
b. Condemned to Die – 11-15
c. Barabbas released for them; ‘Jesus , he delivered to be crucified (for them)’! To understand this would mean that you understand - 9
3. The Plan Accomplished
a. 2 Corinthians 5:21 - Substitution
b. No other Way – John 14:6 – Jesus set the stage for this way back in the sermon on the mount
c. Matthew 5:20
d. Romans 3:22-26
e. In general terms this is how it works – but, now – let’s see the plan personalized for the individual – for you, for me!
4. The Plan Personalized
a. 2 Corinthians 5:15 - He died in my place, so I can live for Him
i. No longer for myself, but for my Substitute – The One who died for me!
b. Galatians 2:20 – I die to self; He lives in me!
i. By Faith – I surrender
ii. By Love – He sacrificed – He gave Himself for me (for you)

iii. For me! – My substitute! Who is Jesus? He is Your Substitute!
