Know God More
Luke 24:13-49
1.Jesus is Alive! V 15 (And the 14 verses before)
a. This FACT changes everything.
b. We have known Him over the last several weeks as:
i. The Word
ii. Our Savior
iii. Our Substitute
iv. Our Sacrifice
v. Our Source
Now, we view Him as a True Friend to those on the confused and broken road of hopelessness
2.He takes initiative – v13-16
a. He comes to those in need – Matthew 9:36
b. He draws near to walk with us through the pain
c. He waits to reveal Himself, until we are ready
3.He asks questions to expose our need & confusion
a. Sad – but, it’s the most Glorious Day, ever! – v17
b. Blind – Are you the only one? – v18
c. Hopeless – incomplete understanding – 19-21
i. Luke 9:22
ii. Luke 9:44
iii. Luke 18:31
d. Confused & Defeated – 22-24
i. They couldn’t believe, unless they saw Him
ii. They are too defeated to look for Him
iii. He is right in front of them
4. As a True Friend, He gently rebukes & corrects
a. By using the Scriptures
b. The Living WORD (and True Friends, in general) will always use the Bible to stamp out ignorance
c. He shows them the necessity of His Death and Resurrection
i. To Satisfy God’s Wrath for Sin
ii. To redeem us from Sin
iii. To demonstrate Victory and Power over Death & Sin.
5.He lingers when invited. V28-30
a. He never stays where He is not wanted
b. He always responds to the invitation to stay a while
c. Abiding
6.He opens eyes & emboldens faith – v31-35
a. Now they are convinced
b. They race back to tell their friends
7. He confirms the Truth and commissions witnesses
a. With promised power – v49 & Acts 1:8
b. And we continue the mission in His Resurrection Power today
c. Together!
Our True Friend – On the challenging roads of life we walk today, He walks with us!
Who doesn’t need a friend like This!
