As I was going to write this episode, I was feeling pretty meh about it. We all know what burnout is, we all have a general idea of how it feels, but what are the signs that happen to lead up to burnout and how do we know if we are about to head into the dark territory. If I’m being transparent, as I’m writing this episode, I realized I’m currently living in burn out zone.. And I need to get out! I knew I was tired, overwhelmed, and feeling a little down, but I wish I would have noticed some of the other signs before I got to where I am. Because now, like so many of you listening, I have to dig my way out, clear my head, recharge, adjust, and get back to a healthy place. So, since I’m clearly no expert in this- I took to my bff google and found some very helpful information on the topic! Some of what I read I already knew, but many signs I’ve noticed and didn’t attribute to burnout. So, I’m going to share what I found with you and give some of my insights. Ok, what are some of the things we may notice if we are on the road to burnout out?
Ring a bell? Yikes…. ALL OF THESE THINGS have been happening over here! I thought I was depressed or being dramatic, but it turns out I’m on my way to burn out and I need to stop it! Luckily you don’t just wake up one morning and feel burned out. It happens gradually over time, but if you aren’t paying attention it can hit you like a ton of bricks.
Burnout manifests itself in a few different ways, physically, mentally, and emotionally, and not all of them are super obvious. This episode covers the most useful list I found on the internet that I’ve experienced, and I think will be helpful for anyone who may be on the same path. I’m going to go through these and see which I’m experiencing/have experienced and I want you to do the same.
Burnout as a whole can be experienced by anyone who feels overworked and undervalued (aka motherhood hahah), but doesn’t have to be a normal part of our lives! I’m hoping that we can use these signs to help us stop the burnout before it happens! Also being vocal about our priorities, wants and needs, and drawing some clear boundaries for ourselves and our families will help us stay in a healthy mindset. I’ll keep you posted on how I get out of burnout mode, and will do a future episode on how to get back on track!
