Mark 6:30-44

Big Idea: God’s miracles often invite our participation.

Matthew 7:7-8 (NIV) Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

1. Gods capacity is not constrained by limited resources.

Mark 6:42-44 (NLT) They all ate as much as they wanted, and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftover bread and fish. A total of 5,000 men and their families were fed from those loaves!

2. The ingredients for a miracle are often within our grasp.

Mark 6:38 (NLT) “How much bread do you have?” He asked. “Go and find out.” They came back and reported, “We have five loaves of bread and two fish.”

John 6:8-9 (NLT) Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up. “There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?”

3. God’s miracles are usually experienced in community.

Mark 6:41 (NLT) Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces, He kept giving the bread to the disciples so they could distribute it to the people. He also divided the fish for everyone to share.
