Ep.14 Raising Free Thinkers feat. Rev. Christina Mooney
Hey friends! You will absolutely love this week's episode. Join us as I chat with the beautiful and wise Reverend Christina Mooney, as she shares her family's experience with public school, deschooling and unschooling. Reverend Christina Mooney is a native Californian and veteran unschooler with over 20 years of experience in independent education. Although she knew early on that independent education was right for her family, it was only after her older children had a series of negative experiences in the public school system that she took advantage of California's compulsory education laws to establish her family's private home school.
Since then, Christina has successfully graduated several adult unschoolers. She coaches, educates, and provides consulting services for families in California and across the nation. She is currently educating her younger children, including one that has special needs while advising her unschool graduates who are now prospering in the world today.
In This Episode
In this episode Christina shares her personal experience with the ways of compulsory learning at public schools through her youth in comparison to the experiences of her children. Since making the decision to unschool her children, Christina has witnessed a number of benefits and advantages that her children have experienced. There is no one-size-fits all approach in her unschool family. All of her children have experienced a warm and safe environment, flexibility, freedom, purposeful learning, accommodations, and support through an independent education.

Reverend Christina Mooney empowers us to customize for our children. There are many ways to tailor unschooling for children who are gifted, advanced, behind, or considered to be diverse learners. Christina suggests that we should always choose what works and to observe the viewpoints of our children. Do not lock your children into arbitrary learning methods. Liberate your children by giving them the opportunity to choose.
