Ep.40 My First Year Unschooling ft. Amy Lakeberg
Hey friends! It's obvious that unschooling is radically different from institutionalized classroom learning. For many families, unschooling helps children to unlock their potential and takes away the pressure to perform under distress and unwarranted circumstances. Unschooling children fully embrace their interests and discover new ideas and concepts. This is exactly Indiana native, wife, and librarian, Amy Lakeberg, realized with her son. This week, I invited Amy to share how she has addressed her son's unique learning needs through unschooling and how she empowers him to be free to find the right learning strategies that work for him. Amy joins the show to share her family's first year experience with unschooling. Don't miss it.
In This Episode
In this episode, Amy and I converse about her family's first year experience with unschooling. She shares why she decided to remove her son from the public school registry following her observation of his interests. She shares how she maintains her faith when facing conflicting opinions from others regarding unschooling. Amy believes that parents are the first advocates for their children's educational needs and she thinks supportive legislation policies should be created to legally protect unschoolers and homeschoolers. Amy values community and has found many community support groups online and within her personal network. Amy embraces nature based and interest-led learning as she follows her son's lead and his passion for putting things together and discovering the mechanics of objects.
