Description

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us Hebrews 12:1.

Our besetting sin doesn’t have to hold us back and, in fact, shouldn’t.

Fear, worry, perfectionism, doubt, materialism, comparison, pride; all sins that hold us back from growth and from running the race with pureness of heart.

There’s a reason why Paul specifically mentions the fact that we need to lay it aside.

Not only because we need Jesus to run our race with patience and finish our course with joy, but also because we should never, ever use it as an excuse not to grow a little more closer to Jesus and grow a little bit more distant from the world.

Our besetting sin should never be something that we say “ah, that’s just who I am” or “it’s my cross to bear.”

Jesus commands us to ‘forget those things which are behind and press toward the mark’... even in our flesh.
