Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 18. We will then key in on verse 22. He who finds a wife finds a good thing. I believe this scripture is telling us the desire of both Jesus and His father, God. He does not want a man and a woman living together outside of marriage. For a man and woman to live together, they are to commit to one another and get married. The passage of scripture this reminds me of is from the Gospel of John Chapter 4, beginning in verse 7. This is the story of the woman at the well. She was a Samaritan. In order to speak to this woman, Jesus (and the disciples) had to go through the country of Samaria. The Samaritans were despised by the Jews. I will continue reading through verse 26. Three things that I would like to point out from this passage of scripture are: 1. Jesus chose to go through Samaria. I believe that Jesus had encountered this woman before and was looking forward to speaking with her again. It is convenient that during this passage His disciples have conveniently been removed to go and get food so He can speak to her alone; 2. Jesus is the living water - this is something that only people who have truly had an encounter with the living Christ can truly understand. Jesus is the source of our life and inspiration. If you have received Him as your Lord and Savior, you understand the impact of this verse; and 3. Jesus mentions the woman's husband to expose her sin - Jesus, here, I believe, is talking about the importance of marriage, and not simply living with one another. He understands the institution of marriage must be entered into purposefully and that He is opposed to a man and a woman to simply live with each other outside of marriage.
