Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 29. I will then key in on verse 7: The righteous considers the cause of the poor, But the wicked does not understand such knowledge. Jesus cared about the poor of His day. May I suggest that He didn't just care about the poor financially, but He also cared about the poor spiritually, the poor physically, etc. The bottom line - He cared about everyone, period. I have mentioned Matthew - the author of the gospel of Matthew on a number of occasions, and that, prior to being asked by Jesus to "follow Him" he was intrigued by Jesus, as were most people when He roamed the Earth. Mathew was hated by most people for being a despised tax collector. He was very rich and tended to exploit his position of being a tax collector, often at the expense of Jewish people. Today we are going to look at another tax collector, named Zacchaeus. I will be reading Luke Chapter 19: verses 1-10. In this passage it says that Zacchaeus was a tax collector and he was rich - as were most tax collectors at that time. Zacchaeus had heard that Jesus was coming into town, and he wanted to get a bird's eye view of him. He wanted to see if everything he had heard about Jesus was true. Three things I will mention about this passage of scripture are: 1. Jesus was going personally to see Zacchaeus - He made the trip to Jericho specifically to see Zacchaeus (may I suggest that Jesus is making a special trip to see each and every one of us as well - will you receive Him?); 2. The people were envious and jealous of Zacchaeus - because Jesus made the trip to see him (and not them); 3. Zacchaeus was saved that day - after hearing was Zacchaeus had to say, Jesus said, "Today salvation has come to this house." Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. If Jesus will save Zacchaeus, He will save any one who calls upon His name.
