Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley.  Today we will be going over Proverb 16.  I will then go over verse 24:  Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.  This verse goes hand in hand to my CALL TO ACTION that I began two days ago.  I have asked that everyone go out of their way and pay a compliment to one person a day.  I will then go to the 30th chapter of 1 Samuel.  In this story, it has been three days since David (and his 600 men) have left the land of the Philistines.  As they approach the town of Ziklag (where their wives and children have been staying) they find that the entire town has been burned to the ground!  David's men actually consider stoning David because of this.  (I will read the first 8 verses of this chapter).  Three things that I ask that you consider about this wonderful story (and thus wonderful takeaway) is that David strengthened himself in the Lord (verse 6b of 1 Samuel).  The main point I want anyone listening today is that David was at a crossroads here.  David could have absolutely lost it here and gone off the "deep end."   I will go over a bit of the commentary of my personal Bible and describe how, by using the Ephon, that David was confident that - when he inquired of the Lord whether or not that he should pursue the Amalekites that He obeyed God and went after both all of the people that had been taken (as well as recover all of the spoil).    2.  David shares the spoil with all 600 men (not only. the 400 men who went the distance with him and recovered all).  This is very similar to how our military does things to this day.  I have heard that for every man that goes to the front to battle the enemy there are at least 10 people working behind the scenes that are supporting the effort of the army.  3.  David gives the overflow spoil to the elders of Judah.  At this point I explain that for quite a while David (and all of his men) had actually left the land of Judah and gone to live in the land of their enemies (the Philistines).  David now has an opportunity to come back into the favor of the elders in the land of Judah.  By dividing the spoil with numerous towns and villages, David can now regain favor and establish new relationships moving forward (Three chapters later - in 2nd Samuel) David will actually been established as the new King of Israel.
