Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 17. I will then key in on the verse for the day, verse 6 - Children's children are the crown of old men, And the glory of children is their father. Friends, Judy and I are blessed to have one of our granddaughters visiting with us in Colorado for the last two weeks of school. We will be graduating from Charis Bible College on the 13th of May, and will then be making the journey back to our home in Florida. We will actually be returning home the day this podcast is published. The second half of this verse states that the glory of children is their father. Today I am going to begin my study of the Gospel of Matthew. On Monday's podcast I introduced you to the author of this gospel. I mentioned that Matthew had been a tax collector and was despised by the Jewish people. However, in Chapter 9 of Matthew Jesus one day comes to the tax booth where Matthew is working and says two words - "Follow me." Immediately Matthew turns in his keys and his life will never be the same! Chapter 1 of Matthew begins with the genealogy of Jesus. We begin with Abraham - the Father of our faith. This tells us that Jesus is of Jewish lineage. It goes on to say that King David is also in this line. We end with Joseph and Mary. This tells us that Joseph is also from the lineage of David, but Matthew makes it clear that Joseph is NOT the father of Jesus. That he is born of a virgin. I will read Chapter 1: verses 18-24. These verses tell us that Jesus was born of a virgin, and that Joseph has an encounter with the Angel of the Lord and is told to go through with the planned marriage with Mary. Joseph has the integrity to wait until Jesus is born to have sexual relations with his wife, Mary. Call to Action - Think about how you would have reacted had you been Joseph in this play. How would you have responded? Suggested scripture reading: 1. Reread today's proverb, Proverb 17 in its entirety; 2. Reread the entire 1st Chapter of Matthew's gospel.
