Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 25. I will then take a closer look at verse 28 - Whoever has no rule over his own spirit Is like a city broken down, without walls. Friends, we need to learn to have self-control. This verse is basically talking about being "out of control." Now that the Holy Spirit dwells inside of us, we have the ability to be calm and not be this way. Today, we will continue our study on Matthew's gospel. If you didn't get a chance to listen to yesterday's podcast, I invite you to listen to that prior to listening to this. We ended yesterday's podcast by Jesus healing a multitude of people. Because of this it says many followed Him. This leads us into Chapter #5 - commonly known as the Beatitudes. I liken verses 3-10 as the way that we should "be" every day as we live our regular lives. These verses go against popular culture, but we are to be different that most people. I will also read verses 11 & 12. I will then talk about the "Headings" of the rest of Chapter #5 - Believers are Salt and Light - we are to "stick out" if we are living the Christian life. We are to be dedicating to living a life that pleases God - and if we do that we will be different. Murder Begins in the Heart - one of the 10 commandments says "Do Not Murder." This is telling us that we shouldn't even wish for harm to come upon someone (totally different). Adultery in the Heart - Again, one of the 10 commandments is "Do Not Commit Adultery." This verse is telling us not even to look at woman with lust for her (once again, a totally different mindset). Marriage is Sacred and Binding - God instituted the covenant of Marriage and He wants people to keep the vows they made at the altar. Jesus Forbids Oaths - this is telling us that we should keep our word (if we say we will do something, then we are to do it). Go the Second Mile - If we go out of our way to help someone, let's REALLY go all out and truly help them! Finally we are to Love our Enemies. With the Holy Spirit now dwelling on the inside of us we now have the ability to do this. Call to Action - I would like for you to close your eyes and imagine that you have just been called to be a disciple of Jesus (because we have) and imagine what it must have been like on that mount as you hear the words of Jesus. Suggested scripture reading - for the next four days I ask that you read Chapter 5, Chapter 6, and Chapter 7 of Matthew's gospel. Really meditate on these three chapters.
