Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 8. I will then go over verses 7-8 - For my mouth will speak truth; Wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the words of my mouth are with righteousness; Nothing crooked or perverse is in them. Friends, it is imperative that we speak truth at all times. If we openly confess that we are a Christian to people around us, they will be watching us. We are to set an example of how we are to conduct our lives - a very important part of this is watching the words that we speak. We are not to gossip, or say negative things about people, we are to say things that will encourage people or give them hope. We are blessed and we are to be a blessing to the people around us. Today we will continue our study on Matthew's gospel by looking at Chapter #11. John the Baptist is now in prison and sent a couple messengers to check on Jesus and to see whether Jesus was truly the Messiah. Jesus told them to go back to John and inform him of all that they saw Jesus doing - healing the sick, that the lame could now walk, that the deaf could now hear, that the blind could now see, and that the poor were being preached the Word of God. In verse 10 a prophecy which was foretold by the prophet Malachi in Chapter 3: verse 1 had come to pass. John was the one talked about in this verse. He had prepared the way for Jesus to come and begin His public ministry. Verse 11 explains that anyone who receives Jesus as their Lord and Savior today will be greater that John the Baptist. This is because of the finished work that Jesus did on the cross for each and every one of us. Since we have that revelation we can be assured that we have been made the righteousness of God. In verses 28-30 Jesus tells us that we are to come to Him with our burdens and that He will give us rest. He is telling us to forget about the law and the requirements of keeping every aspect of the law - because we simply cannot keep every law that was required of us. We are to keep our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
