Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 13. I will then key in on verse 18 - Poverty and shame will come to him who disdains correction, But he who regards a rebuke will be honored. Friends, we should be willing to hear instruction from people who correct us for something we have either said or done. This is how we can learn from our mistakes. The second part of this verse says that if we listen to rebuke then we will be honored. Whether that happens or not, I believe that God sees when we make corrections based on what people have told us. That, in itself, should be reason enough to listen to correction. Today we will begin Chapter 26 of Matthew's gospel. I will go over verses 1-5. These verses discuss the religious leaders' plans to trick Jesus into doing something that may cause Him to do something which would enable them to bring charges against Him. I read commentaries in the Nelson Study Bible from both verses 3 & 4 which talks about these plans. I then will read verses 6-13 about the anointing in Bethany. We find out in this passage of scripture that Mary, the sister of Lazrus, pours a very expensive type of perfume over the head of Jesus to prepare for His burial. We find out that the value of this expensive perfume would be the equivalent to about a year's wages in modern times (maybe worth $50,000 to $60,000). Why was Mary willing to do this? Because of her love for Jesus! She certainly wasn't thinking about herself - only that the needs of Jesus would be honored. I will close by reading verse 14-16. These verses describe the betrayal of Jesus by Judas (for 30 pieces of silver - the price of a common slave). Judas would later attempt to bring the money back to the leaders - but they would not change their minds about their plans for Jesus. Call to action: Ask yourself if you would have willing to betray Jesus (had you lived in that time period - and at what cost)? Suggested scripture reading - 1.
