Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 2. I will then key in on verse 7 - He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly. Job understood this about God. He looked to God and did all he could to please God in all he did. Today we will read the entire 8th chapter of Job and I will stress three things we can learn from this passage of scripture:
1. Job should repent - Like his friend Eliphaz, Bildad suggests that Job should repent (about something he has done in his life). Keep in mind when the book of Job was written. When this book was written, Jesus had not yet come. The Holy Spirit had not yet come upon man and the Spirit did not indwell people as He does today.
2. Job got what he deserved - At the time this book took place the assumption many people had was that only good would come upon the righteous (as was Job). They did not think that bad things happened to good people. We know today that that is simply not true. We had an adversary out there (the devil). He is doing all he can do to steal, to kill, and to destroy (see John 10:10) you. The bottom line - Bad things sometime happen to good people.
3. Job should seek God - Now this is good advice (even for us today). Things will happen in our lives today that we are not expected. Things that can really affect our lives in powerful ways - we may lose a relationship, we may lose our jobs, we may have things that happen that materially come against us.
Call to action: Ask God (and reflection ) how you react when important things that can change your life come against you. Is your first reaction to seek God? Think about it.
