Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today, we will be going over Proverb 10. I will then key in on verse 27 - The fear of the Lord prolongs days, But the years of the wicked will be shortened. I will remind the audience that Noah was 600 years old when the flood came. God made a covenant with Noah that He would never again destroy the Earth with a flood. Noah lived another 350 years after the flood. Next, we came to Abraham (who had formerly been Abraham). He lived to be 175. His son, Isaac (whom he had been willing to sacrifice - before the angel of the Lord intervened and provided a ram) lived to be 180. His son, Jacob, who stole his brother, Esau's birthright from him, lived to be 147 years old. And Jacob's 11th son, Joseph, lived to be 110 years old. I will then go over a great story about King Hezekiah, found in 2 Kings Chapter 20: verses 1-6. Hezekiah was near death, and the prophet was sent to inform him that he was going to die. When Hezekiah heard this word from the prophet, he prayed to God - and God heard his prayer. Because of this, God prolonged his days 15 years. I think this is an example of the importance of prayer and a reminder that if we seek God in prayer, He will hear us and, many times, answer our prayers. So many good things to learn from this story.
