Welcome to Wisdom From the Psalms with Bill Kelley. Today we will be taking a look at Psalm 42. Psalm 42 is the first psalm of Book 2 of the Psalms. It is attributed to the sons (or ancestors) of Korah. Some of you may recall that Korah had rebelled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness and had been killed. The author (and poet) of this psalm mentions that he is not currently able to worship in the synagogue of Jerusalem and that he doesn't currently sense the presence of God in his life. Verse 1 indicates that he seems desperate for God to re-enter his life. Verses 5 & 11 are very famous verses:
Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance.
Friends, if you are currently not sensing the presence of God in your life, may I suggest that you do two things:
Seek Him in prayer (the Bible promises that He will never leave you nor forsake you)
& Praise Him - (the Bible tells us that God inhabits the praises of His people)
