Pergamum is known in the list of the seven churches of Revelation as, “The Compromising Church.” Interestingly, the name “Pergamum” actually means “a mixed marriage.” The chief sin of the church is bound up in its name, as the believers became married to the world. In Jesus’ letter to the believers at Pergamum we find a strong warning for today’s church to resist the constant undercurrent of the world which threatens to erode our spiritual foundation
