This leadership tip comes straight from my home town of Ottawa, IL. The first Lincoln / Douglas debate was held there on August 21, 1858. During this debate, Lincoln stressed the importance to "persuade rather than coerce." He was always focused on giving others a voice and working with and through people to meet his objectives.
