On today's episode of "Mitch once again travels to greater Nashville from Chattanooga", the boys end up at Cedar Glade Brews in Murfreesboro. Rich gets schooled on the difference between a kettle sour and the other sour variants. Robert gets pranked by Jonathan about his beer being "just OK," and the guys all end with some special beers and sakes.
Special Guests:
- Jonathan: an entrepreneur at heart, Jonathan made his way from teaching/coaching, to real estate, and then decided to dip his foot in the craft beer industry. He ended up buying Cedar Glade Brews and is an active member in the company.
- Robert: head brewer at Cedar Glade Brews, Robert had been home brewing for almost 10 years before moving out west to pursue brewing as a professional career. With accolades such as working at Anheuser Busch and finishing his degree at MTSU in Murfreesboro, TN, Robert ended up at Cedar Glade after reaching out and joining Jonathan while he was in college.
Beers consumed:
- Lytle Creek Lager: a 5.1% ABV premium American lager, this flagship beer is named after the tributary off of stones river in Murfreesboro, TN. With notes of citrus and honey, this easy drinking lager is an easy sell for non-craft beer drinkers looking for something when they walk in to the brewery.
- Berliner Off Broad (BOB): A super crisp, clean, and (only) slightly tart kettle sour that clocks in at an easy 4.4% ABV. While this beer can be enjoyed "as is," Cedar Glade loves to kick it up a notch and provide different flavorings to completely change up the flavor profile!
- Longhunter IPA: Cedar Glade's traditional west coast IPA, coming in at a big 7.1% ABV. The American hops produce a prominent citrus, floral, and piney hop aroma. The munich malt addition adds a bigger/gritty body to the back end.
- Nuttin' but Fun: A toasted pecan porter made with 25lbs of real, crushed pecans! This porter is not overly sweet or heavy like porters can be and is perfect for cool weather sitting by the fire.
Special Edition Brews for the 2024 International FolkFest:
- Furiant Fuel: A 5.4% ABV super crisp Czech pilsner with just enough hoppiness while retaining the super clean finish the style promises. Just like the dance it's named after!
- Cotswold Morris ESB: Perfectly balanced with some roasty malt character- just enough to get the Cotswold Morris vibes going!
- Jarabe-ing in the Dark Mexican Lager: Hinting at a Vienna lager heritage while giving a nod to the addition of various grains Mexico allows in creating their style of lager, this beer is smooth and has notes of chocolate! Clocking in at an easy 5.1% ABV, its something we can drink all day and in any weather!
