King James VI and I desperately wanted to be Queen Elizabeth I's heir and the King of England. He wanted it so bad that was he reaction to Elizabeth beheading his mother was minimal. The people of England welcomed James with open arms at the very beginning of his reign, but he soon wore out his welcome with English Catholics. Those English Catholics soon started plotting on how take James off of the throne.
