Andrew and Phil can't get enough of "The DUFF"! No, not really. What this new teen comedy has going for it are two funny and charismatic leads in Mae Whitman and Robbie Amell, who transcend the flimsy and familiar plot. Whitman's comic timing is masterful as the titular character, who learns at a party that she is a Designated Ugly Fat Friend for her two supermodel-looking pals. Nevermind that she is not ugly or fat, we learn that the term is meant to be taken loosely. Whitman sets out to prove she is attractive and that we are all DUFFs in our own way. This film is firmly in the genre of teen comedies, so if you are a fan, then by all means, DUFF away. If your favorite movie of last year was "Birdman", you might want to skip this one.
