Seemingly intended as a mockery of hipsterism, Noah Baumbach's new comedic drama features no shortage of acting talent. But what it lacks can be found in the screenplay. Phil found the film to be merely a collection of mediocre jokes and flimsy plot devices. Andrew flat-out hated it. Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts play an older couple who become involved with the passion for life displayed by a younger couple (Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried). What starts off as humorous culture clash turns toward inside baseball, where Baumbach's film turns into a meta examination of the ethics of non-fiction filmmaking. Phil could relate to this aspect of While We're Young, but still recommended that those curious about the merit of this film wait until it's on Netflix.
