Can somebody please give Matt Damon a hand? Why do we have to keep cinematically stepping in and rescuing him from situations? This new space film from Ridley Scott stays realistic throughout, so there are no aliens or droids to jazz up the enterprise. Damon plays Watney, a man left behind on Mars, and yet the Bowie track the filmmakers opt to play is "Starman" and not "Life On Mars?". Don't worry, there are at least a couple of other music cues that are even more on the nose than that. "The Martian" is a fun popcorn movie, due mostly to its epic cast and masterful editing. Did it work for Andrew and Phil? Yes and no. The tone of the film is light, which worked for our intrepid reviewers. But not all the characters rang true for Andrew. Should you see this film? Ask Ground Control, they're commencing countdown.
