Description

Kermit, Miss Piggy and many underused characters return in the new franchise film, "Muppets Most Wanted."  Muppet films always tend to be a genre unto themselves and this one continues in the madcap vein of its predecessor, titled simply, "The Muppets" (2011).  In "MMW", Kermit gets kidnapped and thrown into a gulag while the evil Constantine roams free, convincing everyone he is Kermit.  Constantine hatches a scheme to steal precious works of art from across Europe, with the help of Ricky Gervais (playing a character named Dominic Badguy).  The film is fun enough, but Andrew and Phil found themselves nostalgic for the Muppets of yesteryear, who sang songs from the heart and appeared in stories about kinship and looking out for each other.  In "MMW", our beloved childhood heroes go on a European tour with the thought of increasing wealth and fame.  This sets the plot in motion, but hardly seems the kind of story that moves emotionally.  When all is said in done, a Muppet movie is worth watching, but we've come to expect more from these guys.  Says who? The lovers, the dreamers, and me.
