After "Melancholia"(2011), the whole art house circuit wondered what Lars Von Trier would do next. Ousted from Cannes for life, a festival where he had previously been a darling for fifteen years.  He has returned with a massive project, so much that he has divided the story into two, 2 hour films.  "Nymphomaniac Vol. 1" details the formative sexual years of a woman named Joe, as she describes them to Seligman, a gentleman who rescues her from the street after a beating.  Charlotte Gainsbourg plays the mature Joe, who explicitly recounts her sundry past to the intellectual, attentive character Seligman, played by Stellan Skarsgard.  Joe's flashbacks come to life in pornographic detail as the viewer is privy to her compulsive, desultory sexual experiments.  "Nymphomaniac Vol. 1" is bleak, Brechtian and brusque.  Wait til we get to "Vol. 2"
