One of the strongest critical favorites of the year is also resonating with audiences. Denis Villeneuve's intelligent sci-fi drama is a major success for him and star Amy Adams. A tale of alien contact on our home planet, Villeneuve's directorial effort features a sense of wonder conspicuously absent from most contemporary science-fiction films. It's a feeling of awe not just at imaginative special effects, but a meticulously imagined world and it's realistic depiction of what such an alien encounter would look like.
